HostGator Review by Mindmagic

Published by admin under Hostgator Reviews

By the way, I love hostgator! It is the best host of all the other host I’ve come across. I moved from sitesell to thirdsphere to dreamhost to avahost to yahoo webhosting and finally to hostgator.

Sitesell got a load of problems I couldn’t work with. No ftp is one.

Thirdsphere was fine but I did not need alot of their tools yet.

Dreamhost had ftp directory and folder structure not according to the standard public_html one so it’s just frustrating working with it.

Avahost was ok in everything except that their knowledge base support structure isn’t exactly fantastic, so I always had to contact helpdesk when I’m trying to find an answer. And helpdesk reply isn’t that fast either.

Yahoo hosting is the worst in my opinion. Dealing with them is a laughing situation. Their support is filled with a bunch of dumb dotz who don’t know what they’re doing, can’t answer your questions properly, take so long to answer and never really help you to solve your problems. Working with them is a complete pain in the ass.

But yahoo webmail plus is the best webmail program I’ve ever come across so I’m using it to read and send all my emails forwarded to it. That’s the ONLY plus factor of yahoo in my opinion.

and then I found hostgator! I was trying to find which was a top rated host once and for all and I kept on doing searches and see which host appeared in the top ranks of various hosting review pages.

At first what I saw was lunar pages. I considered switching to lunar pages for quite a while but then someone in the xsitepro forum mentioned hostgator enthusiastically and I started to consider it.

The tipping point came when I went to www.web-host-reviews.info and I saw that hostgator was rated by users as the top host of the month.

So I decided to thoroughly check out hostgator. I talked to their live chat (A very useful feature to help you with your problems) and found that their support responds quite well and usually helps me to find the answer that I’m looking for. When I email hostgator support, they also respond soon enough and with far better answers I than I could ever get from yahoo hosting.

The ftp directory, folder structure and cpanel are standard so it’s exactly what I’m looking for. (simple and easy to use)

Their knowledge base and support ticket system is just the way it should be like most decent hosts.

The best is that they offer a monthly payment plan for baby account with free setup. That’s one of the crucial factors I normally look for to judge a hosting company. Lunarpages only offers 3 months paypment minimum with $30 setup.

Hosting companies that allow only 1 year prepaid plan are held in extremely low regard by me unless they offer a 1 year money back gaurantee. In psychology, this is called a commitment manipulation.

Respectable people always give you a choice to stay or leave anytime you want and they never lock you in with anything.

I’m not going to talk about disk space and bandwidth here because for crying out loud, the difference between most hosts don’t even matter at all.

Indeed hostgator is now rated as top of the list and yahoo webhosting is rated at the very bottom! Wow such findings just totally reflect my experiences.

My website MindReality is royally hosted at hostgator.

Lunar Pages First Impressions

Published by admin under Lunarpages Reviews

First Impression
Lunar Pages was founded in the summer of 2000 by Add2Net, Inc., an honest corporation that has been offering hosting services online since 1997. Five years is a substantial amount of time to be in the hosting industry, since many hosting companies these days have been built-to-flip — fly-by-night operations that are merely in the industry to get a quick buck. Lunar Pages is contrary to this. They have proven year after year that they can provide superb quality web hosting at a relatively inexpensive price to the consumer. Their server uptime is phenomenal — we have yet to see their servers go down for any noticeable amount of time. Lunar Pages is also staffed by efficient customer service reps. This is because response times to support tickets are amazing. We have received quality responses to e-mails in as little as two minutes at times.

Price and Cost Effectiveness
Lunar Pages’ most popular plan is its “Shuttle Hosting” plan, which for $7.95 a month, offers 5000 MB of disk space, 400 GB bandwidth, PHP, JSP, ASP, PERL, MySQL, and toll-free telephone support. With this, like most other hosts, you get access to an online control panel, FrontPage extensions, Dreamweaver compatibility, unlimited e-mail accounts, and unlimited forwarding.

Lunar Pages also offers a “Voyager Hosting” plan for $22.95 a month, in which case the amount of disk space allotted is increased to 8000 MB, and the amount of bandwidth allowed per month is 800 GB. Contrary to the Shuttle Plan, this plan offers a shopping cart with a secure server (https://). So if you’re going to be accepting transactions, this is the plan for you.

Data Center
Lunar Pages owns a data center which is located in downtown Los Angeles. Powered by Dell Power Edge 2650 servers, and quad Xeon 2.4 GHz Xeon processors with three 70 GB Raid Disk Drives and 6 GB of memory, you can bet that your site will be accessible at all times. Contrary to other companies, Lunar Pages has also been known to add new, powerful Dell servers every month to their data center. This shows us that they care about their customers beyond merely fulfilling what they promised. It isn’t required by Lunar Pages to update their servers to the latest technology when it becomes available, but they do this on their own will in order to remain competitive.

Customer Service
If you read the introduction of this review, I mentioned that Lunar Pages’ customer service reps are fast at replying to trouble tickets and e-mails. I really can’t stress this enough. Having been in the industry since 1999, I have never seen such speedy technicians who are dedicated to solving customer difficulties. If you’re new to the Internet and new to the world of web hosting, you will really appreciate this — because chances are you will have a question or two about getting your site set-up. If you’re an advanced user, this may not be so important to you — but of course when you need help, you will appreciate the timeliness of replies too. Lunar Pages also has a toll-free telephone line where customers can call in and ask for help on the problem they are experiencing.

Control Panel
Lunar Pages currently uses CPanel 8, which makes it very easy to manage your web site using an online interface. The panel allows you to see how much disk space and bandwidth you have used in the current month, and how many visitors your site is receiving. CPanel also allows you to make backups of your site, check e-mail inboxes, add databases, and a lot more.

Overall
Lunar Pages is definitely an excellent choice in web hosting companies. This is because their reputation in the five years that they have been in business has been outstanding. It is rare to find complaints on this company, as people are generally pleased with their services. Lunar Pages also offers a 30-day-money-back guarantee. So if for any reason you’re not completely satisfied with their services in the first month, you can simply ask for a refund and get all of your money back.

Andy Funk - Lunar Pages Review

Published by admin under Lunarpages Reviews

Way back in 1995, I was one of the first customers of a company which considered itself to be the very first company specializing in web hosting. My site was fairly simple, and everything worked, so I kept my site with them even after they were bought out and raised their prices.Big mistake!

A few months ago I happened upon a web page reviewing web hosting companies and learned I was overpaying by quite a bit, so I decided it was time to move.

A little research led me to LunarPages. Now I’m saving over $200/year and getting more features and better service than I dreamed possible. And through LunarPages I can improve my own skills by experimenting with cutting-edge web technology, because Lunar Pages accounts — even the inexpensive Standard Plan I have — include high-end features like MySQL, PHP, ASP, and other alphabet-soup that I’ve only read about but now have the opportunity to use.

And there’s actually a real person available by phone. Really. I’ve called a couple of times, for what I thought were kind of minor problems. Not only did I get through to a technician almost instantly, without a wait, my questions were answered immediately and I wasn’t made to feel like an idiot –even when the problem was in the “wetware” between my ears. (In other words, I screwed something up, and the support tech was just that: supportive!)

That they have real, live people available by phone, at no additional charge, is evidence of how well they manage their service, and how easy it is to use. There’s just no way they could offer live support like this if there were frequent problems or the service wasn’t straightforward and simple to use.

There’s also a genuine community of users online at LunarForums.com where fellow subscribers, as well as tech support folks, share their experience with each other. People with absolutely no ‘net experience are made welcome, and I’ve never seen a single case of someone being told to “rtfm” (read the “fine” manual, or documentation — a common, rude, ‘net response to basic questions). The Forums aren’t just available to subscribers, they’re open to all. People considering LunarPages can see the type of questions current subscribers ask and the type of answers they get, as well as ask their own questions — *before* subscribing themselves!

I’m so pleased with LunarPages that I mention them on the first page of my own web site, even though they don’t have a referral program (at least, not that I know of). The service is just so good that I want to let others know about it.

Not affiliated with LunarPages in any way other than being a *very* satisfied customer.
